Departing at 4:30 AM, you will begin this trip a little early, depending upon the season and time for sunrise to witness the sunrise view in Nagarkot. Your guide will drive you from the hotel to Nagarkot, where you'll enjoy the changing views from the city to green landscapes during the journey.
Nagarkot is a popular hill station at 2,175m high, known for its lush greenery, clear mountain views, and stunning sunrises. Driving along the peaceful road to Nagarkot, covered by pine trees, you can also see the Langtang, Jugal, and Ganesh Mountain range in the distance.
You will hike up to the tower in Nagarkot to see the sunrise over the snow-covered mountains, and then have breakfast before you begin your hike to Changunarayan.

Hike from Nagarkot to Changunarayan Temple (4 to 5 hours)
You’ll begin your hike from Nagarkot, heading a little further up to Telkot village. This village is home to Tamang and Newari communities, surrounded by terraced farms growing rice and paddy. Starting from Telkot, begin on a four-hour hike, through a forested trail with a mix of partial dirt roads and some roads that are blacktopped.
In the midst of a green forest on a peaceful hill, you'll find the hilltop temple of Changunarayan. This two-story pagoda-style temple, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest in the valley, dating back to the Lichhavi era (450 AD to 750 AD). Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is known for its stone pillar and carvings of ancient gods and goddesses made from wood and stone.

Drive from Changu Narayan to Bhaktapur Durbar Square (20 minutes), then drive back to Kathmandu
After you’ve finished exploring the ancient temple, you will take a drive from Changu Narayan Temple to Bhaktapur city, known for its UNESCO World Heritage site, Durbar Square.
